Dear CISD Community,

Welcome to our monthly School Board meeting newsletter. This edition brings you some highlights of the School Board meeting that was held on February 9, 2026. Our goal is to keep you connected and informed each month.

Comfort Elementary School Principal, Amy Ellis, recognized Melissa Villa for her hard work, dedication, and strong work ethic. Ms. Villa has a genuine commitment to supporting students and staff as a Special Education inclusion Teaching Assistant. She goes above and beyond to make sure students have the support they need in order to succeed.

Comfort Middle School Star

On behalf of Comfort Middle School principal, Jolane Maddox, Assistant Principal, Brandy Holekamp, recognized Lydia Storey for her tireless dedication, enthusiasm, and passion demonstrated daily in and outside of CMS classrooms. She continues to give of her time and talents to CISD after 27 years of extraordinary serves to our students, district, and community.

Comfort High School Principal, Sarah Womble, along with Athletic Director, Jay Rieken, recognized Coach Chance Horton for his positive attitude, collaborative help in all classrooms, and for always striving to learn and grow to be the best teacher and coach he can be for his students, athletes, and colleagues.

Information Items

  • Superintendent, Dr. Yvonne Munoz, gave the Board and exciting overview of the Prep Program Allotment in three key areas: Residency Preservice Program, Grow Your Own (GYO) Program, and Mentor Program, which will empower CISD to cultivate a pool of well-prepared, highly qualified teachers. Dr. Munoz informed the Board of the savings summary through IDEAL Impact. Superintendent Dr. Munoz indicated 6 new teachers qualified for the TIA designation this year and will be honored in the coming weeks.
  • Director of Academic Services, Dr. Boothe, informed the Board on the released 2024-2025 Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR) with highlights including an exceptional graduation rate at 98.9%, a significant 21.7% jump in College Career Military Readiness (CCMR), and a 77.2% Career and Technology Education (CTE) completion rate. The district scored a C for the 2024-2025 accountability rating and is working to close gaps and increase student learning and accountability performance. Dr. Boothe gave an overview of the Middle of the Year MAP testing and growth.
  • Health/Safety/Communications Coordinator, Emily Steffek, informed the Board that on January 21, 2026, Comfort ISD satisfied all evaluation criteria for the 2025-2026 Multi-hazard Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) Review Cycle. As weekly door checks continue at each campus, Mrs. Steffek made the Board aware of the February Intruder Detection Audit (IDA) window through Texas Education Agency as well as the upcoming third audit window opening March 2, 2026.
  • Food Service Director, Mary Garza, updated the board on working to increase sales at campuses and the now open Garden Bars at Comfort High School and Comfort Middle School.
  • Athletic Director, Jay Rieken, reported on Bobcat Basketball, with the Varsity Boys Record: 19-9 overall, 4-1 in district play; Junior Varsity Boys: 3-0 in district play, 12-6 overall record; Freshman Boys: 2-1 in district play, 4-8 overall record. Coach Rieken gave an overview of Deer Basketball with the overall Record: 7-16, 2-5 in district play; the Deer earned their second district victory last week with a 52-26 win over Florence, keeping them in contention for a playoff spot. The powerlifting team competed at the Stockdale Invitational in late January. The boys’ team finished 6th overall while the Deer finished 5th.
  • Technology Director, Jennifer DiGiacinto, updated the Board on the security camera vendor for the replacement project; implementation started for the new phone and PA system. The technology department completed implementation of Multifactor Authentication project for staff email accounts. The technology team closed 93 staff and 16 secondary student helpdesk tickets in the past month.
  • McLemore janitorial services gave an update about gearing up for track, softball and baseball season by focusing on keeping the ball fields and the Bobcat Grill and track clean and stocked. Deep cleaning continues district-wide.

  • The School Board approved the policy revisions in accordance with the proposed changes resulting from the Policy Review Session conducted on January 6, 2026, as presented.
  • The School Board approved the adoption of the 2026-2027 School Calendar as presented.
  • The School Board approved to not adopt a resolution or corresponding policy that would require a period of prayer and reading of the Bible or other religious text.
  • The School Board approved a second two-year extension of the depository contract with Security Bank and Trust as presented.
  • The School Board approved the contract with Kendall County’s Elections Administrator as presented.
  • The School Board approved the contract with Kerr county’s Elections Administrator as presented.
  • The School Board approved a letter of denial for the proposed renovation and construction to the Kendall County Tax Appraisal’s existing building.
